Merida (from the water)

Today Amanda and I went canyoning in Merida. We arrived at the adventure company in our bathing suits and tennis shoes and prepared for 6 hours of hiking, climbing, rappelling, running through waterfalls, and swimming through extremely cold mountain springs.

We arrived at the site and were surprised to find that we were supposed to hike in tennis shoes, helmets, and bikinis. Really? After about 30 minutes we reached the river/stream and donned some gorgeous wetsuits. We ran through the river and slid down small descents before rappelling through three waterfalls of 8, 16 and 35 meters! the last one felt much more than the 100+ feet since the water was deafeningly loud and the rocks were slippery.

All in, we covered 2 miles of distance and descended 1 mile in altitude. if you EVER get a chance to go canyoning - TAKE IT!

Tomorrow we're off to Caracas so Amanda can fly back to CA and I can go to Ecuador.
